Oh, it's Kintyre FEN not Kintyre Fern.

It took some googling to find that out.

Here it is, the design strikes me as more or less a Royal Stewart variant in blue.

Here's Copper Haze, it's quite lovely. I wonder if it's based on another tartan. Especially with their tweed tartans Marton Mills will do a variant of an existing tartan and give it a new "fashion" title.

Copper Haze strike me as a symmetric version of Buchanan.

The Kintyre Fen leaves me feeling somewhat 'meh'. Just another "muted" bluish-greenish tartan.

Copper Haze looks like a mash up of Buchanan and Maple Leaf. I like it.

Yes indeed, with some hints of Cuillins of Skye, except that it is symetrical.

A few weeks ago I piped for a Buchanan family event and it was interesting to note that half of the tartans worn were symmetrical. I think they were like this:

You're not wrong! But there seems to be a market for those. This one seems a bit Royal Stewart-ish.

Here is Holyrood Weathered, Hollyrood itself a Royal Stewart variant.

Compared to the "Buchanan", the "Buchanan Old Sett" tartan is symetrical. Personally, I prefer this type of tartans. A few years ago I had a kilt made in the Cuillins of Skye tartan; I loved the colours but just could not get used to the asymetrical pattern... Copper Haze offers a nice alternative, though with a smaller sett size. I look forward to seeing a kilt made in this particular tartan eventually.

MacCarthy Tartan - Jura 16oz Marton Mills

    Hello,

Marton Mills also weave the MacCarthy Jura 16oz Heavyweight. It is worth noting MacCarthy Old is also woven at clan.com, Edinburgh, UK. It's a good sign English Mills are starting to weave the rarer tartans. Yorkshire appears to be a good place to weave tartan!
