    Only worn as a piper, and they were a pain to keep from getting caught in things/disarrayed.

    Never had a problem with the hair getting caught. As far as 'disarrayed' goes, a product called "Cowboy Magic" works well on the hair. Used by horse men and women on their horses' tails and manes to keep them from tangling. Works just as well when the hair is off the horse as when it's on it.
