This is one of W. D. F. Vincent's Cutter's Guide books from the turn of the 20th century. Although plate 8 shows what I understand the Inverness cape's body to look like (no sleeves), it includes "wings", which drape in the front, but whose backs are sewn to the body. When I think of Inverness capes, I think of the cape as more what you see in pate 7.
Although I don't have my worktable built yet (I need to make time to get down to my nearest wood shop and plane the worktable surface I have), I think that I would like one of my first projects to be making a cape or boat cloak using the cape on plate 7 as a starting point.
