The tab with the press-button is damaged, otherwise it looks good.

Interesting that the front is embossed using a stamp I associate with Nicoll Brothers.

I'll post more pics when it gets here.

    Thanks OCR.

I think this sporran has suffered from drawer or shelf wear. Don't know what the cantle is made of, but it needs some elbow grease. Not sure what to use given I don't know what it is. It's attached using cap nuts, so I'll take it off and see where to go from there. The tab with the snap will get some black shoe dressing.

Not sure what that belt loop(?) thing is that I found inside (last pic).

Now I need a long link chain.

    I got mine here:

    https://www.scottishtradingcompany.c...oducts_id=4705

They also offer a chromed version, but I preferred the antiqued.

    Cheers,

What's interesting is that the newer long-link chain I got has those bulges from soldering the joins.

But the vintage ones I have don't.

What I don't understand is why that Piper Leathercraft sporran is nearly identical to my Nicoll Brothers sporran.

They used the same stamps on the body and targe.

Interestingly, the Nicoll Bros just let the targe piece overlap the body stamp, while Piper Leathercraft trimmed it.

(I was going to fix mine, doing a red liner, but I just looked and the cantle looks like it's riveted on, not using the standard hex nuts.)

I have noticed the same thing...

Vintage chains seem to be finished to a much higher standard, but some current makers take the time to clean and smooth the joints, like this solid brass version -
