Tweed Jacket Color Advice

Hi, Dave
They go nicely together, however as day wear, it looks quite dark for summer. It seems like a limiting option to go with such a dark tweed more suitable for fall weather. A lighter brown make the tartan pop- especially that beautiful muted kilt.

As it happens I have several Marton Mills tweed swatches here, and a swatch of a red & green tartan in Modern Colours.
For my eye the nicest combination is with a tweed colour you'll see called "Moss", a bit softer and more neutral than Lovat Green.
The specific swatch is Marton Mills CGE 121 Heath Coffee. It's a lovely soft Moss with a subtle over-check.
A few years back I got those MM swatches and spent some time pairing them up with my various kilts, which vary from Muted red to Weathered browns & greys to Isle Of Skye's greens and purple.
It really jumped out to me how one tweed looked the best with pretty much everything! It's
Marton Mills CGE 147 Plover. It's all flecks of browns and greens and greys, just lovely.
And I just checked at it looks great with a Modern red & green tartan too.
The more in-the-middle muted brown that I have a jacket in, Marton Mills CHE 287 Moorland & Coffee looks good too, but really the best is the moss CGE 121 Heath Coffee.
On the left here is a jacket I used to have in something close to Moss, it's a classic colour to wear with red tartans.
On the right is my MM CHE 287 which I really like with that "muted" red kilt.

Oops I just checked MM and I don't see my favourite CGE 121 Heath Coffee anymore.
They do have a tweed the same colour but without over-checks

Thank you very much, Richard. You've given me great advice and I'm going to look at swatches at USA Kilts this week. Particularly, the Plover and Moorland & Coffee.

I'm envious that you're able to visit USA Kilts.
How I'd love to pour over all their swatch-books!
In the 1980s I worked at a Highland Outfitter and we had a pile of swatch-books (Lochcarron, House of Edgar, Strathmore) which I spent a lot of downtime looking through.
But now there are hundreds of new tartans and all the Marton Mills offerings.
It will be interesting to see if you have the same impressions of "Plover" and "Heath" that I do.
(I visit family in West Virginia annually, but even from there USA Kilts is a daunting drive.)

Not having USA Kilts to hand, what I did was create some comparison images of several tweeds paired with my kilts.
A big problem is that it's impossible to capture the appearance of any tweed in a photo.
I did spend time adjusting colours so that the tweeds appeared on my monitor like the swatch in my hand. But this simply doesn't do justice to Plover especially.
Top row: Lovat green, CGE 172 Heath (moss)
Middle row: CGE 147 Plover, CHE 287 Moorland & Coffee (weathered brown)
Bottom row: Lomond blue, St Andrews blue
In the end I got Moorland & Coffee primarily because it became an inexpensive "stock" colour at St Kilda, which I ordered through Pipers Hut in Ohio.
My next jacket will probably be Lomond Blue which looks great with all my kilts.

I stopped there last May. It gave me a chance to look at colors and fit test the tweeds before buying.
