I say this out of genuine curiosity, what do you mean by the above comment?

Notice the Hollywood costume people can never quite figure out how the thing is supposed to work.

And they love to put big ornate Victorian brooches at the shoulder, things which didn't exist in the 18th century.

They also usually use brown & grey "reproduction" or "weathered" colours for the tartans, which didn't exist until 1949. (There are other Rob Roy photos showing this.)

Note the recurrent trope of ancient Highlanders running around either shirtless or wearing Hollywood pirate shirts. (No such shirts existed then, or at any other time in history.)

I’m curious to learn OC Richard. How was the belted plaid actually worn historically? And what were common colors during the 1650s-1770s? I know now that “actual clan tartans” weren’t really a thing at that time, but a more modern invention.

Oh it was just a cynical comment about "modern" pictures that are rather tiresome that cannot even get the weather right, let alone attire of olden times. I am sorry, but these stories depicted in pictures, film and books filled with romantic clap-trap, does wear rather thin with the locals.

Yes, yes think of the money! That is a reasonable thought for the short term.But.......
