This has been a most interestig thread. I think that we also have to weigh the intent with the response. Obviously, a kilt lift of any type is inappropriate. However, in the society we now have, there is no decorum taught anymore. I think that sometimes when you mix curiosity with alcohol and subtract appropriate decorum training because we thing everthing is okay now, you get these kinds of situations. IMO, different people require different response even if it may be the same action. I've never been lifted, but have been asked. One of my sons' friends was, I think, overcome by curiosity when she asked what was under there. I put my hands on my hips and said, "And just why would you want to know, young lady". Saw that 19 year old turn forty shades of red when she realized what she had just asked. OTOH, in the Pub situation, it stikes me as alcohol induced rudeness that may take a sharper response. If at all possible, though, I think keeping our sense of humor about it will help in most, not all, but most situations. Although Bear's responses win the prize in my book.
