    Finally Did It

In honor of Tartan Day, I had my first "real" outing kilted. That is to say, I wasn't going to Ren Faire or a Celtic Fest or hiking. My only kilt (so far) is an Amerikilt traditional style that I wear when I go backpacking. I wore my tartan tie to work (Clan Hay Ancient), but for choir, I wore the kilt with a shirt I picked up in Portsmouth years ago when my sub pulled in (needed a shirt and tie for a function with the Royal Navy and had to quickly go out in town and get one) and my tartan tie with my heather cufflinks. Since its been hot today (for this time of year here) I wore leather sandals, but thought it looked pretty good. The choir was tickled, althought the soprano that sits next to me said I needed a fancier sporran (her maiden name is MacGregor, so go figure). Some good natured ribbing, but the director did say, "It takes a real man to dress like that". Overall, a fun positive experience.

    Huzzah!

The first time out can be nervous-inducing, but I've gotten over it by now.

Good Show, keep it up. The more you wear the kilt the sooner the ribbing from friends dies down.

    first time out

    Good for you Verlyn

My first time out was a bit frightful also. But the more I wear my kilt out the less people notice, heck some will even look the other way when they see you coming toward them It can be rather amusing

I have more and more anti-pants days now the more kilted I am the less I want to wear jeans

May the kilt be with you

Magnus, you have no idea of the many times I've read the posts from the Philly area and tried to figure out a road trip. The driving back part is the key. Of course, if my brother-in-law and future son-in-law come along, we'll be invading, but still need a designated driver. HMMM, my daughter turns 21 this fall and she really isn't too interested in the 21 drink thing. Her fiance loved the Guiness at Celtic Fest (called it a "beer smoothie) Maybe we can con the women into being the designated drivers (one of them at least) and head down for a Kilt night . Of course they both have tartans, so I'd be the out of place one in my olive amerikilt. Anyway, I will definitely drop you a note when we head that way (I REALLY want to hear Barleyjuice play). Thanks for all the support. Of course, I'm under orders from the gal that sits next to me to get a fancier sporran (darn the bad luck ).

Hey Verlyn, Barleyjuice is in negotiations with the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire grounds for an entire SUMMER of appearances. Once the schedule's up and firm, we'll have to get you down the Turnpike for a day of kilting. It's easy for the Philly guys to get there too... and WHAT a great place!!!

That would be too cool. Hopefully, we'll see you there, then.
