Yeah, the first time is the hardest, because you are aware of people looking at you. Eventually I found you dont even notice the looks, and the more you wear it, the more good reactions you get. For me it became so second nature that I dont even notice the people's reactions! My friends notice it more than I do. Apparently its their new favourite game: walk around the mall so they can laugh at the people's reaction to me kilted!! It ends up something like this.

"So what do you want to do today?"
"How bout we walk around the mall with Declan in his kilt and laugh at people's reactions?"
"Ok, lemme call Declan... Hey, we're meeting at the mall after work. Do you have a kilt on or with you?"

I can only imagine what it would be like with 5 guys in kilts just hanging around a major public space with no set plan (not including pubs!)

Just a thought: what do you call a group of men in kilts?
