Kilt directories
I shall continue to show my ignorance....
A thread the other day stated 'am I the only one to follow others around identifying tartans' (- or words to that effect.)Are there such things as tartan directories? Seems to me that it would be good to have tartan identification listings by tartan base colour then subsections by major colours etc. My (albeit brief) searches have not found anything yet.

STA...
The Tartan Index on the Scottish Tartans Authority web site gives thread counts & descriptions of tartans, but you have to be a member with a user ID & password to login. It's well worth it, btw.

I have a listing here on my own web site:
http://albanach.org/tartanresources.html
The STA's Index is the one I use most often, but if you need to identify a tartan based on the colors, use the tool on the House of Tartan site. Not perfect, but the best that's out there for performing this function.

Yike's!!
ANOTHER LOOMING ADDICTION
Was having breakfast at the Rock Springs Cafe in Black Canyon City, AZ yesterday morning (kilted of course) and caught myself studying the pattern on the curtains of the restaurant trying to figure out if it was a plaid or a tartan of some sort.
Catch myself trying to identify the tartans on the three pack boxer shorts at WalMart...
Is there therapy available??

Ron,
I know what you are talking about. Anywhere I go and see a plaid I try to figure out what tartan it is

MacGreggor, my wife is of the opinion that men will window shop but if I ever try to handle the merchandise she WILL insure my swift and brutal demise.
