Traditional vs Modern at Hector-Russel
Today I stopped in at the San Francisco Hector-Russel store to get my traditional Gordon altered. I've lost a good deal of weight since my wedding and I needed to have the straps moved a few inches.
I was a little nervous becoause I was wearing my new brown Workmans UK. I wasn't sure how the sales people at H-R would take it. I was imagining that there would be at least on snide comment about UKs not being true kilts, or how I was demeaning my heratige. Of course nothing like taht happened. The guys there asked me a few questions and we talked while they did the adjustments.
The consensus was that while UKs are not true kilts in the traditional sense they are well made, comfortable, and durable. Whats more you do not have to constantly worry about ripping or staining an expensive peice of clothing.
I left the store feeling that I have made good choices on both my kilts.

As a newly wed, are you being fed like a God?
That is, is the new bride putting burnt offerings in front of you?
I married a girl who could cook like a prize winning chef. I've gained weight pretty steadily since we got married. Dagnabbit!!!!

There's a little-known fact about certified, trained, educated and apprenticed kiltmakers. They have NO JEALOUSLY of the other kilt companies. They realize the niche that they fill, and can honestly appreciate the garments. There's also no fear that they will lose their jobs due to their offerings.
In fact, I actually know of three Authentic Traditional companies that will GLADLY refer customers to casual kiltmakers when it's called for.
That's the skill, honesty and attitude that keeps them in business... and respected.

Jimmy, you re definitely right. I haven't had it happen myself, but I have seen kiltmakers in this forum reccomend another kiltmaker. I don't know of any other bussiness or industry in the world where that would happen. That kind of ethics can do nothing but increase my respect for them. I think all of the kiltmakers here at xmarks deserve a round of applause from the rest of us.

I like hearing things like that! Makes me glad that I am a kilt wearer.
