In a Utilikilt, packing iron is no problem. I saw Kid Cossack make a 7.5" barreled Super Blackhawk disappear into the pocket of his Mocker. Anything smaller would be no problem. All you'd need would be a pocket holster to keep the thing in position for a draw.

Now IIRC, Lazarus Long used a thigh holster of some sort UNDER his kilt to conceal hsi blaster. I don't know if it was an upside down carry or right side up, but I would suspect the former to be more convienent.

As I recall, Lazarus Long had enough weaponry concealed on his person to arm a militia company regardless of what he wore, but his Scottish Cheiftain outfit made it easy to hide even more.

I've read it. Growing up, I read everything I could by Heinlein, and also by Issac Assimov, Andre Norton, Harlan Ellison Ray Bradbury, and a host of other great Sci-Fi writers.

The Long family turns up in another Heinlein book. I forget the title but it involves a dimmension hopping familiy being chased from one story book dimension to another. They end up settling in universe of the Long family after visiting many other universes including OZ. For some reason it has always been one of my favorite books.

Chacbalam, the name of the book is "Number of the Beast." Sence you liked it I suggest picking up "The Cat Who Walks Through Walls."

Thank you, bubba for your input too. It was greatly apreciated. There is a tartan on the cover of the currently published "Time Enough for Love" that i was curious about too.

That one gave me quite a bit of chuckle...

On the Heinlein topic, I have not read of word of Heinlein - I spent most of my youth reading the World Book Encyclopedia.

Most of my most enjoyed reading has been from Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Frank Herbert, J.R.R. Tolkien and Douglas Adams.

So, where should I start with Heinlein?

You are not the only one who spent an inordinate amount of time reading World Book Encyclopedias as a kid. Lots more fun than ball sports in my opinion.

I never could warm up to Vonnegut, and acn take or leave Herbert, but Professor Tolkien is one of my favorites as well.

As for Heinlein, just pick up any of his books, consult the list of "Other Books by this Author" in the front of the book and work your way from top to bottom. Heinlein is a great writer. He writes about people first and science second.

Ok, I suggest you start with "Stranger in a Strange Land" or "Will Fear No Evil." Both are very good, and not in any series. I really suggest strange because it is my favorite, and first Heinlein book. Well, happy reading.

    NeoKilts

I believe they offer some sort of pocket for a gun-maybe they read Heinlein's books too.
