Whew, the last two weeks have been busy. But, Sears' Northern Region Drama Festival has now come to a close. It was my first Regional competition, so it was a lot of fun just to meet all the people from the North Bay and Sudbury districts for the first time, and of course seeing the people I'd met at District the past couple years. Of course, every day from about 4:30 till about 6:30 i was stressed out of my mind because I was the Classic's Front of House manager, but, you know, other than that it was good. Thankfully we performed the first night, which meant (for the most part) we could just relax and enjoy ourselves for the workshops and the socializing.
This weekend was also the first time I've really witnessed the power of the kilt. On more than one occasion I was getting quite the eyeing up from girls who otherwise wouldn't have given me the time of day.
And, as for the awards? Once again this guy was the only one of my cast to get an award, though this time it was a Certificate of Merit, so I was a little disappointed it wasn't an Award of Excellence. But then I thought, Hey, I just got one of sixteen awards for a group of 196 students, that isn't half bad. Our play didn't end up going on, which in a way I'm kind of glad for because my one cast member is a complete ***hole, so I no longer need to have any contact with him thankfully.
Also got to prove I know how to make one hell of a exit. After I went to get my award, I stopped at the top of the stage steps to do a silly pose for a photo, with one foot out about to go down the steps. Only problem being I did go down the steps, all the way to the bottom, rather quickly(translation: I fell down the steps) at which point I got a standing ovation. I was assured afterwards that I hadn't exposed anything, and I'd made a point of going regimental , I mean...
Only really got asked the "What's with the kilt?" question twice, and both time the Biological answer came in real handy. Here was my delivery: "It's for comfort. Now think of a pair of pants, how they're designed, you know, bifurcated, split down the centre." Pause. "Now, think of how a guy is designed." Pause. "We've got a bit of a conflict here." Both times got a good laugh AND got the point across.
Thanks for the words of encouragement you guys.
Declan The play was "The Curve" by Tankred Dorst. If your familiar with it, I was Ralph, the car mechanic guy. And we had baseball bats at the ready for the breaking of limbs, but by Sat. night at the Award ceremony we were too tired to notice that we hadn't won
