Who would have thunk that Argentina has a tartan...??
Argentina has a fairly large Scottish expat and immigrant population, beginning in the early 19th century. An e-mail buddy of mine was from Argentina, and had Scottish heritage, so he had the full "kilt kit" and was fairly active with the St. Andrew's Society of Buenos Aires. He moved to Quebec recently to escape the economic depression that has hit Argentina hard in the last several years.

There is still a Scots Presbyterian Kirk in B.A., and a lot of Scots, Welsh, English & Irish went to South America as soldiers-of-fortune in the wars of liberation, or as businessmen.

The St. Andrew's Society has an active pipe band, and there are also pipe bands and Scottish societies in Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.
