After all this time living in Athens, GA, my only real conclusion about Atlanta is that, in general, it is one crap city...... (very homogeneous and 'white-bread')
If you are young, it can be a very fun town - lots of bars and clubs and what-not.....
I guess it depends on what you want to do... The Botanical Gardens are outstanding, the High Museum, however, can be missed..... There are some decent restaurants, at least, due mostly to its size.... The Ren Fair Mike mentioned closes June 5th, I believe... There is interesting 'Night-Life' in the Buckhead neighborhood.... You could always catch a Braves game.... You will just miss the Music Midtown festival.... For a short trip, you could check out Stone Mountain - the site of the Stone Mountain Games (but they aren't until October)..... Oh, and the world famous Cheetah "Adult" lounge - I have heard stories, but that isn't my kind of thing....

Atlanta...
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield, just north of Atlanta (1 hour?), is worth checking out. Lot of Civil War history:
http://www.nps.gov/kemo/
The view from the top is breath-taking!
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Burns Cottage replica in Atlanta:

Some friends of mine who are big Burns afcienados have been there when the World Burns Federation held their AGM in Atlanta, and they said it is worth the trip!
Cheers,
Todd

How could I forget that? Great birdwatching there, too. It should be much less than an hour...... (If nothing else, Atlanta is infamous for its traffic...)
Oh, and an interesting fact about Kennesaw - it is a city ordinance that every household is to own a firearm!!
I didn't know about the Burns Cottage......

Also, please PM me with the information you mentioned. My son is looking for a job right now.

The Ren Fest should be happening that weekend. South of Atlanta.
Stone Mountain Park has a few things to do but mostly it's just a nice walk up the "Big Rock". Great view from the top. East of Atlanta.
Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield is great if you like Civil War history. Lots of trails. North Atlanta
Buckhead is the nightlife district. Northside.
Downtown has a bit of everything. The World of Coke is interesting for an hour or two, Underground Atlanta is OK, Centennial Olympic Park, and a few other sites. Might even be able to pick up tickets to a Braves game.

Hey Beerbecue and BMackay and anyone else in the Atlanta area or the Southeast... Why should the guys up north have all the fun
There are plenty of pubs downtown but would you guys be interested in trying to get together at a place I know out in Snellville, GA.
It's called Summit Tavern (Formerly Taco Macs, R.I.P.). It's more of a sports bar but they have an incredibly huge beer selection from all over the world on draft.
It's about a 45 minute drive from Atlanta and Athens. If interested here's there site.

Pubs Downtown.....
Just not Fado Fado, please.... My wife and I almost got into a fight there - I have found Buckhead to be filled with really obnoxious types the times I have gone.....
Snellville, I could do that...
There were also some other Taco Macs in the sort-of-between area (are they all gone/name change?) - I haven't been by the one here in Athens in a while.
There is also one by Mall of Georgia in Buford....
They do have great beer selection!
I am sure I could get the wife to be my designated driver!
We bought our car in Snellville......

I think just this Branch was bought out. The others appear to be open still. I'll go over and start a thread for GA Kilt night so this one can continue on topic.

I would love to have a Southern Kilt night.
But nobody I know of in Greenville wears kilts. I am so alone. It hurts.
