You did the right thing. Obviously she has a very narrow view of her world and you don't fit in with her ideals. A well thought out debate would not have satisfied her, she already made her mind up and you were not going to change it either way.

You should be commended for your approach as you are setting an example to each person, child and adult, who witnessed the proper handling of a potentially confrontational situation.

It is a shame though that one idiot can ruin a day of compliments and confidence when wearing the kilt casually.
