I hate hate hate short sleeved button-up shirts. And the thought of wearing one with a jacket makes me cringe. With a jacket you're supposed to have a bit of shirt cuff showing at the sleeve. How else would anyone see your cufflinks?

Am I the only one struck by the fact that we are a bunch of men, trading fashion tips?
May my wife never find this site.

That's one of the many important things we do here, Bob.

The local Mormon Bicycle Brigade around here has recently began wearing short sleeve white dress shirts with ties... And those people have just about the most strict dress code that I know about.
Still forced to wear long pants while out bicycling door to door in 100+ degree heat with 100% humidity. Most of them pass out from heat exhaustion. And not so nice people steal their bicycles when they do.

If you wear a tie....go with long sleeves and roll them up if it
gets hot. Looks fine to me. If you just go with jacket and no tie
(which might be fine depending on the setting of the wedding and
such) then short would work all right. Depends on the wedding. I once
went to a friends wedding where groom and groomsmen all wore white
Converse with their tuxes. Looked smashing! I like not being confined
by "fashion tyranny". Sometimes I go very traditional and sometimes I
like to be rather funky. Whatever works for you man. If you get a compliment
or two, you did it right.

For the sake of clarity...
I posted earlier today that short-sleeved dress shirts with ties tend to make one look like a Mormon missionary or software developer. I deleted the post when I recalled Hal mentioned a bow tie, not a normal long tie and figured my comparisons didn't hold up. But I would like to mention that the bow tie does bring up further possible comparisons... former US Senator Paul Simon and Pee Wee Herman, maybe?

Greetings, again!
Thanks for all the input - And I think I'll run with my first impression, which was long sleeves! Two "side notes", in response to other replies....
I have done the "short sleeve under a dress jacket" trick when it was hot, but only under a Class "A" FD uniform tunic. The sleeves aren't *supposed* to show (unlike a traditional jacket) and the short sleeves were a lot cooler. And the tunic never came off, so no one noticed!
As for the bow tie, I (personally) don't like the way *I* look in a traditional tie w/kilt. As a bonus, if I ever get to a point when I untie it...A bow tie looks OK untied, while a standard tie looks "messier" (My opinion only!) Besides, I despise wearing ties at all...But I despise bow ties less! ;)
As for trading fashion tips, OK...It's unusual. Anyone wany my "spiced orange pot roast" recipie? <LOL>
Again, thanks for the advice!
Hal
