How can you get hit on and not realize it?
Back in May I was at Finnigan's Wake and some fair lass came up to me, turned around, bent over and started grinding into my sporran with her hindquarters to the beat of the music. She was pushing so hard she ripped one of the tassles apart on my sporran! (it's fixed now) Think she might have been hitting on me?
Or monday night, at the local office park pub, I go in with a few co-workers to raise a pint to my friend & colleague who just turned 36. Lass leaves her boyfriend right there at the bar, kilt checks me (with my consent... and allowed me to reciprocate) and mostly ignored her boyfriend the rest of the time I was there to hang out with me. All of my friends could be heard saying "I gotta get a kilt". Think she might have been hitting on me?

Not all hitting-on is as blatant as that, Magnus. If some chicky came up and started grinding into me, then yes. I'm pretty sure I'd have picked up on that one.
But here's an example. I'm sitting at the bar with some friends, both genders. Woman comes up to me and hands me her card, tells me it's for in case I am interested in buying a house (according to her card, she was a realtor). I thought she was serious - as did all the guys in our group. The girls were laughing at me because I said something like "I don't think I need a mortgage yet" and threw the card in the ashtray.
Looking back on it, I think "Christ, what a dolt." But at the time, I just thought she was trying to market a bit.

Generally women are fairly subtle when they hit on a guy. Since I'm quite happily married I simply refuse to take notice which politly tell the lady I'm not available. Amazing how many variations of that barnyard dance there are.

Exactly - and notice that the women in the group all got it right away, while the guys were just shaking their head and going back to watching the hockey game.

Yeah that might have gone over my head, too. Or maybe even insulted me (marketing at a pub while I'm trying to raise a pint with the boys). Womenfolk can be subtle when they want to be, but they almost have to because a woman that is half as forward as your average man risks being labelled as a "slut".

??: I don't know Jamie. I don't think I would have ever taken that as being hit on either. Maybe I'm dense on those things too. Oh well, after 23 years of marriage, don't think I need to worry about that anyway.

You guys are making me feel much better. Not that I worry about it too often, but some of my female friends had been starting to make me feel like a dumbass.
