I've been lurking and reading the various interesting and entertaining post here for several weeks. I decided to make my prescence known and join in the conversation.
The lone kilt in my closet is a 13 oz, 8 yard traditional in the Campbell of Cawdor Modern tartan. I have purchased most of my accessories from our fellow board member Matt at the Scottish Tartan's Museum.

My kilt purchase was encouraged by my wife and my minister. We are Presbyterians, our church has the Kirk'n service once a year. Our minister is from Scotland, there are lots of kilts worn on this particular Sunday.

From what I read here it is a good thing to have your wife's approval and encouragement.

 Jim

					Welcome!
You will do just fine here.

So... What's your second kilt going to be?

People are bound to ask, so I just got that out of the way.

Welcome! The Campbell of Cawdor is a very nice tartan. I've just ordered some cloth in the ancient look for a kilt I plan to sew (or attempt to sew).

Campbell of Cawdor is also the Argyll District tartan, and I have always wanted a kilt in it, since my great-great grandmother was from there.

I am in charge of our two kirkins that our St. Andrew's Society sponors every year -- I'd love to hear more about the one at your kirk.

 Cheers,

 Todd

KMacT: I thought that tartan on your avatar looked familiar, the modern tartan is much darker than the ancient tartan, the green and the blue are very dark, much like the Black Watch tartan.
To answer the other questions on the second kilt, I was thinking maybe an Ancient Campbell in a 4 yarder.

Cajunscot: Glad to hear you are participating in the Kirk'in services, ours is pretty traditional, led by a Scottish Minister (with the brouge) in a Fraser Hunting tartan and a Braemore Jacket. The Claymore come first in the procession, then the Beadle (Beedle?)with the Bible, then the parade of clans and tartans followed by the bagpiper and drummer. After the service we have lunch, complete with Haggis.
