Today on my first kilted outing to Jackson, MS, I got several comments, all polite if somewhat bewildered. At Olive Garden, I had one hostess ask if I danced the Highland Fling, and our waitress asked if I belonged to a kilted organization.
No communist comments.

Commie huh?
Where do these people come from?
I wore a set of Army Dress Blues last week, a uniform that has changed little in some 140 years, NOBODY knew what service I was in without asking.
I must have seen dozens of movies with men in kilts by the time I was 10 years old all about scots. I might have recognized a kilt at age 5 but never have I ever heard of kilts = Commie.

I think the folks who have been saying it's just a word that means "not normal" for some people are on the right track. It goes back to the 80s when Communism was still actually seen as a threat.

Having read these posts I think the above states it all, I know I have used that term myself to desribe something that was not normal.
