Ros is a geologist, and she's also designed an Isle of Mull tartan that is based on the geology of Mull (and sale benefits Isle of Mull charities). It's beautiful and unusual, and you can see it on the same site I listed above.
All of her tartans are woven in 11-12 oz weight by D. C. Dalgliesh. While this is a lightweight tartan, it makes a beautiful kilt. Anyone who goes to Highland games and sees dancers competing will see kilts in tartan of this weight woven by Dalgliesh - they are the primary weavers of tartans for competitive dancers. Although it sounds like a small difference, their 11-12 oz tartan is noticeably different than other mill's 11 oz and conspicuously heavier than say, for example, Lochcarron's Reiver weight (10 oz).
Cheers!

Hey
Where do you get those blue argyll hose?
Someone I know is looking for some kilt hose tops for his pipe band, and needs blue.

Hi Fr. John
If you look carefully at the first photo, you'll see that the setts of the two pairs of hose are different from one another. That's because they were each custom knit to match the tartan. We ordered them directly from Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, and you just send them a swatch of tartan plus measurements and they match the tartan when they knit the hose. They even use the same thread that Dalgliesh uses to weave the tartan, so the color match is perfect. Not cheap, however. Last pair we ordered was $120. The dancers take _really_ good care of them!!
There's also a company in the UK called Henderson Highland Hose that knits custom-made hose for dancers.
