Review!
Okay, I got the Nova Scotia tartan kilt from the Celt's Cauldron on eBay. I've yet to wear it, but here are some first impressions:
Definitely 11oz PV. It's nice and soft.
There are four buckles, two on each side. I've never seen a kilt with a fourth buckle on the left side and I'm still trying to figure out why. i'll just close up the buttonhole and get rid of the buckle and strap.
The pleats are very shallow. It's definitely not the 8-9 yards of material I was told would be used. The pleating is a little iffy as well...the sett across the pleats is skewed here and there. Also, there's no center line down the back. It appears to be centered on the center of the box, not on a line. The fell could be sewn down a little further as well.
The apron is not tapered, and there's a triple fringe instead of a double one. Like the back, there's no center line, but a center "box", so to speak. There's no real lining to speak of, just some remnant tartan fabric used instead.
It will definitely be used as more of a knockaround homewear kilt than wearing out. As I only paid $100 for it, I definitely got what I paid for.
