Honestly, with jerks, it's a toss-up. you can ignore them, challange them, or cut them off with a snappy come-back, but which of those you choose really depends on the situation, what they say, whether you're outnumbered by the antagonists or they're just one of a crowd... sometimes the ladies they're with will cut them off for you.
There's lots of comeback lines, but they depend on the right comment being said. Do some extensive reading on this site and you'll find how we have handled specific situations, but how you do it is up to you.
...and remember too, that we don't always have to take ourselves super-seriously, some humor can turn a tense situation into a drink-buying occasion on the others tab. ;)
