Some of this is due to the confusion between the Black Watch and the Black and Tans, a auxillary police force of the Royal Irish Constabulary, that was known for committing atrocities during the Anglo-Irish War (1919-1922).
While some folks may have this confusion, the Black Watch, regardless of the brave and noble acts they may have performed elsewhere, are well known as having also committed their share of atrocities during the 'Troubles'.
