What I'm envisioning is a tight round braid coming over the hips and down to the sporran. If you've seen a high quality whip, you'll know what I mean; something that's tight with no rough edges showing, while still supple enough to drape against the body.
I've seen nicely done horse gear like this; couldn't some of those companies produce something for us as a sideline?
I've been thinking the same way. I like the look of a round braid and have been checking some of the tack stores to see if they know of anyone locally who can do this. I've seen the one at Rkilts and like it,although something a bit lighter in color is what I like.
