Too funny. 
But, she did call it a kilt, not a skirt. 8-) Obviously, the fabric was where she saw the similarity, not the idea that the kilt was like her skirt. What she said is similar to someone saying, "The leather on your jacket reminds me of a pair of boots I used to have." They're not calling your jacket, boots, but comparing the fabric.
