We need to establish swap hunt. Bird hunting in Finland sounds good.
What birds do you hunt? What are the non resident requirements? Do you have bird dogs?

In Lapland there is more birds anyone can ever hunt. Hundred bird flocks of willow grouse for example. And that is the speciality. More usual birds are black grouse and this which english name I dont remember (EDIT: Capercaillie):

If anyone of you want to come to Finland for hunting I can help with the licences and hunting cards. Importing firearms you will have to work out yourself. I can help in it also if it has a need to contact Finnish authority. Do you have some kind of hunting licences in the US?
I was also planning a kilt meeting in Finland which you can find from the "Kilt nights" forum.

Importing firearms may be the most difficult part. I noticed that it says that a foreigner must supply a license showing that they have a permit to carry the firearm in their own country. The difficulty for me, for example, would be that I don't have that kind of license, and am not sure that I could get such a thing, because I don't think there's a provision for it under our laws. The only license to carry that I'm aware of is for carrying a concealed weapon - and those are not really what I would choose to go hunting with. I'm not sure how I would handle that issue. A permit to own firearms? Again, not required here, and probably not easy to get. I do have a type 03 Federal Firearms License, but that just allows me to order certain types of gun through the mail. (Or import them to the US under certain circumstances.) I'm not sure that it would help me get permission to bring one of my rifles to Finland. Sigh.

The individual State controlls hunting & licenses in the US, but yes we have a license requirement. Might be as little as $30 for a 3 day. Guns are still fairly easy to clear and use here.
I'll have to check the other thread.

You should contact Finnish Customs and Finnish Police and ask about it. I know that US citizens come here to hunt sometimes but I dont know how does it work.

I love to shoot and have a nice little collection of milsurp rifles that is growing. Indeed, I need a new cabinet before I can bring any more home. Sadly, I was never really introduced to big game hunting and the couple of invites I have gotten over the years ended up not panning out when both times the guy inviting me had a change of plans. :-( So I guess until I can save up for a guided deer hunting trip to learn the ropes, Bambi is safe from me.
Still, I've got this fine Swiss K31 Schmidt-Rubin 7.5mm that I'm pretty sure has never harmed a living soul... it would be nice to take this one hunting sometime.

I mentioned in another thread that I just bought a vz24. A pre ww2 checkoslovokia made, romanian issued, 8mm mauser, that wasn't manufactured by mauser. From what I am told it is a good gun with a so-so trigger. I really want to fo out in the woods in the next couple of days and shoot it. When I got it I bought 100 rounds of 1940s military ammo that I intend to plink around with.
My dad has been hunting a couple of times this year and has got one ugly spike elk and one pretty black tail.

I've never done any hunting, but I enjoy target shooting. Every year, sometime after the thanksgiving holiday, a bunch of us Rangers from Burning Man gather up pumpkins and take them to an outdoor range for a "Pumpkin Hunt".
I don't go every year, but the couple of time's I've gone was great fun.
I have a Chinese SKS and an Enfield .303 Jungle Carbine. When I bought it, the wood was dinged, scratched, and covered with black splotches of what remained of the original finish.
I filled in the dings with wood putty, cleaned it up nicely with a blend of mineral oil and light varnish. It looks beautiful (to me, anyway).
Some of the Rangers keep threatening to go pig hunting. The ones who are really into it just go and tell the rest of us about it when they get back.
