    Granite, it's beautiful.
I hate calling the Saltire faddish or novelty but the granite will work for more situations.
Granite is my second next choice for my own kilt goals.

As much as I'm attracted to the Saltire, I know I'd wear the Granite more, and in more places.

As for your choice: I'd agree with those ahead of me - The Highland Granite is a beautiful tartan which can be worn formally or informally. The Saltire, on the other hand, whilst holding a slight attraction for me, is something of a 'novelty' tartan. I have seen it being worn and it is truly effective when those pleats are swinging, but I still see it as a 'fun' kilt and not one to be taken seriously.

well i agree with most of that the non bolded section! anyone got a link to the granite?

Have you guys seen the saltire kilt in person? It is truely awesome--too awesome to be a mere fad, I think. The effect of the swishing pleats is mesmerizing. You can't go wrong with either kilt, but the price of the saltire one might be a deterrent.

Well, I've seen the Saltire worn in a formal setting (Scottish wedding in Luss) and I think it'll be around for a long time to come. Just take a look at what's flying from nearly every Scottish flagpole....Not a Union Flag in sight!

All kidding aside, I've already voted on this issue. I have a highland granite tank on order with our own Barb T!
