Type of sporran
Hey Whiteraven Jr.,
I think what you must have is a "semi-dress" sporran, ie a sporran without a cantle (the metal half circle at the top of a dress sporran) with some fur and maybe some metal. I think the idea is that a day sporran will be very plain with no metal, as the sun reflecting off metal might scare way animals one is hunting. I think you could "get away" with wearing such a sporran anywhere. My first sporran was a semi-dress. I wore it to highland games, house parties and formal events.
Ideal it would be nice to have at least one of each day (say for highland games, etc), a semi-dress (for church, funerals and informal social gatherings) and dress (for formal evening social functions) sporrans. But they are alot of money. I don't think anyone (except that kilt dilettants) would give you too much grief for wearing a semi-dress with a formal outfit or to an outdoor function. Do what you can, most of us are glad your making the effort to wear a kilt.
