US tartan
Wouldn't it be a dream if Stillwater Kilts made a heavy weight in some sort of actual United states tartan, something everyone could wear and explain to people easily. It would kind of be like the Irish or Scottish National tartan, people could wear it without worrying about how they relate to this clan or that clan, or explaining why they wear a tartan. Even when I wear my Scottish National I inevitably end up explaining that I have scottish and roots on my mothers side.
It shocks me that the only kilt maker that carries anything similar is Sport Kilt. Well I will keep dreaming and order two if they ever do come out.
Why is it that more kilt makers don't carry a US tartan?
Hoping for a US kilt someday... come on powerball.

There are several United States tartans out there:
www.district-tartans.com/american.htm
www.district-tartans.com/us_standrews.htm
http://americannationaltartan.com/
This last web site also shows an "Irish-American" and "Scottish-American" tartans as well.
The US St. Andrew's tartan is quite common; I have seen folks wearing it on a number of occasions. It is my undestanding that all three are not "official" tartans per se; the US St. Andrew's tartan was intended to be the official tartan for the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976, but the Committee would not grant it official recognition.
Cheers,
Todd

What about these:
http://scottishkilts.net/products/5_...yard_kilt.html 5 yard machine sewn
http://scottishkilts.net/products/st...ched_kilt.html 8 yard machine sewn
http://scottishkilts.net/products/pr...ched_kilt.html 8 yard handsewn
Pretty decent prices for traditional kilts.
Kudos to Stillwater by the way for actually using consumer input and adapting their business to meet those demands. I too am looking forward to seeing their new line.
In the words of King Julian of the Lemurs (madagascar- parents of young children will undertand):
How long is this going to take!?!

Great kilts but...
I really want the US st. andrews or bicentenial, something red white and blue throughout. It is good to see that someone is heading in the right direction, I will have to check those out when it is time for my next kilt.

I would love to see the Irish American in a Standard or a heavy weight. It sees unlikely though because it would put him in direct competion with his supplier But the IAin Standard would be great 8-)

I see the new 2006 Black Stewart kilts, and, of course, they look great!
But where, oh where, are the new heavyweights?
heavy sigh.
