I think they are great if you are looking for something "Old Skool" to wear with your modern scottish clothing.

From a Reenactor standpoint they aint so hot.

Ahh, there's the rub: I'm not a re-enactor. I'm just looking for a well made blade with a good edge that is presentable for formal occaissions (perhaps even to become a family heirloom?). From the photos on the website they appear to be everything I'm looking for-plus, I'm intrigued by the bog oak handles. :-)

hahaha, robin, u'll have to take that also here with you when you come to spain!! You'll have the chance of having it, but for me will be irresistible just to have the chance of touching it!

Then they are good to go for you. All the reasons you stated are good ones. Its a much better SD than what you find in the kilt stores.

I agree, the ones in most kilt stores are the cheesiest garbage being sold at outrageous prices.
