I finally tore into my latest batch of Irish Stout and poured some Black and Tans, using some Bass Pale Ale as my light beer. Ah, I do love a good, strong Stout!
Except that I'm afraid that I've spoiled myself. On the recommendation of a friend I bought some Beamish Irish Stout. I also then picked up a can of plain old Guinness to have a taste test. The head poured out nicely on both beers, but then, when I tasted one, then the other, I thought my taste buds must have gone dead. Nice and creamy, but, compared to Guinness Extra Stout and my own stout, and, heck, even Leinie's Creamy Dark, the Beamish and the plain Guinness were almost flavorless.
Next on the to-brew list is my McMullen's Doggie Dubh Wee Heavy, followed by an oatmeal stout with a Scottish twist. Then, for the New Year, I plan to try the Oatmeal Raisin Stout.
Sorry for the shameless plug of my t-shirts in the Wee Heavy link, but that's the only pic of the label that I have on the web right now. And, yes, if you click on the zoom, you will see that the Bulldog is, in fact, wearing the MacMillan Black Modern tartan.
Nick, if you're around in a week or so, the McMullen's Scottish Ale should be carbonated, if you want to stop by for a kilt night. Anyone else within driving distance is welcome too! (KCW, that means you!)
