I like that. Let's celebrate the Celtic brotherhood of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall and Mann, and call the whole damned thing "Celtica."

At church I get two questions most of the time. The most common is if I am from scotland. I say "Nope, born in salem lived in the same house my whole life." They often ask why I wear the kilt I usually just say that I wear it because I want to.
The second is what clan is the kilt. With that I tell them what clan the tartan is then explain that I do have ties to the clan (or not depending on the kilt) but that I chose it because I like it.

There are a lot of Scots, too, so on the whole I think people up here know the difference, eh?
In fact, a lot of the manpower that built St. Peter's Cathedral downtown were Scotsmen that came over for the job and stayed, if local tradition is right. Which I think could be pretty easily found out at the Historical Society.

With me it has always been the 'Scottish' link. It has never once been suggested that I might be Irish, in spite of my many plain coloured kilts. In fact, almost without exception, when I begin to tell enquirers about Irish, Welsh, Cornish, Breton, etc. tartans and kilts (or cilts!), they simply do not believe me! No, only the Scots wear kilts is the belief in these parts!

A lot of my friends know my family came from Northern Ireland, so I sometimes get the "but I thought you were Irish" comment. I sometimes reply, "So did I"

Having been born in Philly and lived in the area most of my life I am American-ish, and when I travel other places I am reminded of this. My ancesters came from Northern Ireland but I have been finding that those Irish came from Scotland.

That's what I mean by my "so did I answer". The Irish American society told me when I enquired about any information concerning my family, "You are really Scottish"

Here in mid-Missouri I usually get the Scottish question, but, on occasion I will get the Irish question. I reply that my ancestery is both Scottish and Irish.
