Gave up wearing a sporran (except for traveling or special occasions) long ago. I find it just gets in the way. I usually have some other jacket or waiscoat with pockets to keep things in.
Got told off by some American woman (more Scottish than the Scots!) who found my photo on the web and expressed her disgust that I was not wearing the noble costume in the traditional way. An insult to the nation, she said.
I replied very briefly with Bear's trade phrase.
Kilts are garments not costume.
