Anytime I have seen a single button kilt jacket (or jacket modified for the kilt) it always looks tight when it's buttoned. My new jacket looks the same way when it's buttoned, even though it is not tight at all. Probably because the cloth of the jacket forms a point at the button, it always looks like it's pulling. I'm with Hamish, wear it unbuttoned and it will look better.

Add a few extra buttons, including 2 with chains for closure (much looser), satin or silk facings on the lapels and you'd have an excellent formal jacket.

Nice look. Did you modify the jacket yourself?

Mowgli, yup, I modified it myself. I found the jacket at St Vincent de Paul. It had patch type pockets which were easily removed and it was just a matter of removing the pockets, shortenng the thing and making the cutaway.

Hamish, once I get a waistcoat I probably will wear it unbuttoned, but to my eye it didn't look right unbuttoned with just the shirt and tie. It really isn't tight at all though. As for the tartan, I've seen this one listed by several makers as Hamilton Red, Rocky just lists it as Hamilton.

Very nice. I would agree that the jacket might look a bit better if it were unbuttoned.
