Rob, The shirt is not a check pattern but what's known as a dogs-tooth pattern. It is basically in three colours, the main one being the same colour as the kilt. I picked up one of the other colours (maroon) in the flashes. I wear check or tartan shirts ONLY with plain, contemporary kilts such as Utilikilts.

The kilt is not tartan either but is in a khaki tweed with a slightly lighter line running both ways across it. This one came from The House of Bruar in Scotland - a specialist high-class tweed 'house' - where it is known as 'Windowpane Tweed'. ( www.houseofbruar.com )They sent me a matching flat cap in the same fabric when it was delivered......

Unfortunately, they no longer produce the kilts, concentrating on trousers and plus-fours and, other 'country' clothing, instead.

That brown belt with the brass buckle is a great favourite for day wear. It came from Geoffrey (Tailor) in Edinburgh some 15 years ago, but sadly they have nothing quite like it now. One of the first things I did when going for daily kilting was to equip myself with at least one full set of leather accessories (belt, sporran, shoes and boots) in both black and brown. Now I have about a dozen assorted leather belts and eleven sporrans, which makes mixing and matching great fun!
