It was probably built close to the same time.
The Valley Fair Mall, 2145 S. Memorial Drive, Appleton, was built in 1954 by Gerald Hoffman of the Hoffman Corp.
The mall claimed to be the nation's first enclosed shopping mall and served as a prototype for other malls built around the country.
No surprise the enclosed mall is a midwestern idea since the weather here sucks most of the time. ;)

Hmmmm... And I was always told it was Thomas mall in Phoenix. That one was torn down over 20 years ago. Weather sucks there too, in the summer.

Probably said this before, but one of my lady's favorite things to do when we're in the big city is to go to mall with me then let me walk ahead 20 or 30 feet. She trails behind watching all the double takes and sneak looks at my kilt. Cracks her up. ;)
