The USPS is likely to be more honest about duty than Fed Ex or any of the couriers. Outfits like Fed Ex charge a rediculous fee for collecting the duty and it's a nice addition to the profits.

I received the orders from UPS, who acts as their own broker. When the kilt arrived without customs fees I was a bit hesitant (but hopeful). Sure enough 2 weeks later a bill for the customs fees arrived. The package was also sent on a rush delivery (2 day service) where as the jacket was not. Perhaps they want to make sure the package is delivered and than worry about the customs fees.

I once had a postal employee come to my door and say they forgot to charge me duty for a shipment from the UK I had received the previous week, he said I owed them about $10 (I forget the exact amount)

I said that was fine, but I insisted on a written invoice for my records, he did not have one, said he would go back to the Post office and get one, which he did.

As I was handing him the check, I asked for a receipt, he said he did not have one, and that he "hoped that was OK"

I withdrew my check and told him he could have it when he had a receipt for me.

He returned later with a receipt from the Post Office cash register, and I gave him the check. I asked him if it was really cost-effective to make 3 trips to collect $10.
