Well I have done it, I have just ordered my first non trad kilt

I did phone the order, the web site came back on line as I was on the phone !! The kilt I have been told will take about 6 weeks

I own that one and wore it to a party on New Year's Eve...I got a lot of compliments on it and more than a few roaming hands I had to swat away as well.

Well done Derek, I know how big a jump it is to do that, but if you get the right kilt...it's worth it.

Thanks to robert from R Kilts, I've even been convinced that pockets are a good thing!!

Well if makes you feel better Derek, I'm doing the reverse of you...I started with non-traditional kilts (namely UKs) and have just started working my way into the more traditional lines.

Good choice. I wear that kilt more than any others. I love the colors and after it softens the material is fabulous.

A few words of advice:

UK's are bulletproof. DONT worry about them too much because they can take everything but the worst abuse and shrug it off.

DO wash it in cold water as it will shrink in hot.

DO dry it on tumble only, no heat. NO HEAT. The heat will shrink it, but the tumbling will soften the material and if you take it out when it is done it will hardly need ironing, even for those who like crisp, starched pleats.

Thats the problem with trad kilts, you have to be carefull as it is so easy to pull or pluck the kilt !!

I've taken the plunge as well. I have a Mocker and a Original on order. 6 weeks for me as well since they didn't have my size/length on the rack.

In my opinion, you're going to find VERY quickly that you will like one over the other. For me, I loved the Mocker because I wasn't a fan of the cargo pockets. However, when I got the tan corduroy original, I swung back in that direction although now that I see the tan mocker on there I may swing back one more time...I'm a fickle UK wearer aren't I?
