Since this is your first kilt, to which family name do you feel the strongest ties? There are no real restrictions, so choose the one that "fits" you the best. Of course, later on you can get the others.

    Welcome to the forum Sean,
here you will get loads of advice & support from the various & sundry (and a fair amounyt of heckilng as well )

I agree with what has been said above: go with what you like best - & what works best with your current wardrobe. Makes it easier to wear a kilt out when you have loads of other things that work with it already.

    Enjoy

    Colin

Thank to you all for the help and welcomes. I'm going to go with the Maclean Ancient hunting for my first kilt.

    MacLean

Great choice. I'm sewing up a MacLean Ancient Hunting one right now. It's a wonderful green and 16oz tartan is a joy to work with and wear.

Even though I'm related to the Ramsey (Ramsay) clan, I don't like the tartan.

I found that the Ramseys had a close historic relationship to the Royal Stewarts during the time that Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned by the English.

So, I wear the Stewart Hunting tartan which I like better.
