Believe it or not Ron it was the guys like you and the guys that applied for congressional appointment on their own that gave us hope for the middie program. Most of you were there because you wanted to be not because daddy had money or knew someone and wanted their boy to be a ring knocker. Some great officers in all branches have come out of the USNA and affiliated programs like NROTC. My own personal favorite USNA grad was Robert A. Heinlein.
To keep this on topic... The type of middie I was making reference to would own a beautiful kilt (1) with full kit and wear it maybe once or twice or only on "special" occasions. The type that would look down on us for wearing it casually.
