2 More New Kilts On The Way!!!

Melville Kilts is new to me too. We look forward to your reviews of the kilts.

I bought my first Melville Kilt off eBay and have done this one by simply emailing and placing my order. They don't have their website up and running yet but I hear it is coming.

They make kilts in both wool and a wool/PV blend. Personally I've not found a difference to the touch between the blend and 100% wool. One nice thing about the blend is that it is Teflon coated so it resists stains a lot better. I've been able to just dab things off my Ancient MacKay that would have meant a trip to the dry cleaners had it been made of 100% wool instead. And the blend has a very good percentage of wool in it so it has excellent swing to it.

The only thing that is a detraction to the blend is that the standard length is 23.5 inches instead of 24 so for me that means having the kilt end at the very top of the knees instead of just barely inside the knee.

For a product that is incredibly inexpensive and that ships Royal Post so no excessive customs charges, I've been quite impressed with the product. And it is extremely well made, still being a handmade product. The cost for a kilt, fly plaid and flashes including shipping and handling is about $350 to the US for the blend kilts, and that's an incredibly deal on a made in Scotland product. However, if you do a custom order it can take a little while because it is a one-man shop and he's making both custom orders and models for "off-the-peg" sales. Also, they don't always have every size in stock for the "off-the-peg" models for the same reason. But they do have an incredible range of tartans available as "off-the-peg."

I would class Melville Kilts in the blend as only one tiny step below a tank and at the price a steal.

I've been trying to convince him to become a member here at XMarks to get wider attention to the brand, but he's worried it would take too much time away from kilt-making! I have to admit that I'd rather have him sewing.
