I've worn my Adidas Sambas with my MacQueen tartan USAKilt and German National football jersey and it looks just fine.

FTR, I wore plain old Hanes white atheltic socks, rolled down a bit.

I'll add my vote to the ankle socks. If I'm not wearing boots or sandles, low top tennies get the ankle socks.

Contrary to what most people here have said, unless I'm dressing up I always wear running shoes with my kilts (uh-oh, kilts-plural, see other thread). In the winter, I wear kilt hose, but in the summertime I wear low socks, usually SmartWool mini or micro crew height, so they don't really show at all over the tops of the shoes.

I can't actually find any photos right now of myself sporting the sneakers without gaiters (hiking-mode), but I've never had anyone tell me I shouldn't be wearing it that way.

All-black Chuck Taylors I can see happening. I have a pair myself, but opted for the boots. I should clarify my definition of tennis shoes, being the traditional nike/new balance/etc. running shoes.

regardless, as always, it's your kilt, and your feet. Wear what you will.

I have to side with the no tennis shoe crowd. I haven't worn a pair of tennies since I started wearing kilts. If I'm casual it is usually hiking boots, but on occasion I will wear sandals (no socks - ever).

I'm sure hiking boots would look good with a kilt, but I don't own a pair, and don't plan on purchasing any just to wear with the kilt.

It's all about being comfortable - why shouldn't you wear sneakers with the kilt? It doesn't look "proper?" I don't think it looks any stranger than wearing boots with kilt hose pushed/rolled down.

If I was going to be hiking out in the boonies I also am going to go for comfort. Who is going to care? If I'm real casual in town...I have high top work boots. If I don't make the best dressed list....oh well, there's always next year.

I agree with Kilted Kt - Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star black monochrome low-quarter canvass basketball shoes w/ black ankle sox look totally rockin' with a black UtiliKilt & black t-shirt! Pull your long hair through the back of your baseball cap & your ready for the concert!

    Rock On!

I've tried the sport shoes look, but I don't really like the way it looks on me; the thick padding on the typical sports shoe makes my sz.13 feet look even bigger!

These shoes definitely make me rethink that though.
