Gosh Alan - I'm sorry to hear about your job woes - but its like they say, when one door closes another door opens...
Now I have a confession... when no one is home I pull down all the blinds, play some Enter the Haggis real loud and dance around the house in pure white pipers hose with popcorn tops - ok so that's a lie - but I thought it might bring you a chuckle.
I prefer oatmeal hose but own one pair of off-white hose for when I feel like dressing up a bit.
Take care young man!

I love my hamilton dry goods off-white hose also. For $8.00 you won't find a better looking sock. I do typically wear a short foot sock under it to keep the cotton threads from being uncomfortable though. My next set will be the wool to see if they are able to be worn solo.
My first sock was a black soccer sock which I thought looked ok, but I prefer the cream and oatmeal or stone.
Best of luck on finding the next place intended for YOU. Wisdom and grace to you and your wife. I'm sure your wife will provide cherished support.

Kilt Hose
Somehow I have wound up with three pair of off white/cream colored kilt hose, and I like them the least. Too bright for me. I have a pair of lovat green that go well with my blackwatch, navy blue that I wear with with my Black Stewart, and oatmeal that I really like because I can wear them with a matching sweater that I have with any of my kilts.
I've been unsuccessful in finding black kilt hose from somewhere here in the states. I need them for my Nightstalker. Can someone tell me the best place to order them from?

The Celtic Croft has black kilt hose for $20.00. Look under "Color" under the "Quality Kilt Hose."

Good luck with the job search, Alan. I hope it does not last long.
I, too, like my off-white kilt hose. I plan to wear them to work on St. Patrick's Day with my Irish National Kilt.

The off white or cream hose work seem to well with some outfits, I wore my off white hose last night to match my sweater.
Alan, another door of opportunity will open, I've been in the same situation a time or two myself.

Sorry to hear about your job situation Alan. I had a year recently to think about my impending job loss but when it came it was still sort of a shock, especially after 17 years. However, I'm working again in a completely different career. Not making as much but the challenge of something new keeps me on my toes. I'm not really missing the money all that much either for that matter. Best wishes and good hunting in your upcoming job search.
As for the hose, wear whatever you like!

Now that I have my screen wiped off after reading Phil's post (I still can't get the vision out of my head ), I have to confess that I like cream hose as well. I also like black hose and white hose. However oatmeal colored is my favorite.
Alan, if it's any consolation, I lost a job at age 52, when my job and the high volume production of the company I worked for was sent to a new plant south of the US boarder. I landed on my feet, working for a much better company at a much better salary. I remained there until I became disabled.
Things have a way of working out, and this cloud may have a silver lining.
