The Indian Hemp variety used for paper grows to 20/25 ft high in an English summer - or so I have been told.
I don't think the excuse that you were growing it for kilt making would get you off if you were found with feeble but highly perfumed plants growing in tropical temperatures.
The cloth should be seriously hard wearing - as long as the cotton growers don't hear about it and send the boys round to persuade people that growing/wearing hemp cloth is bad for the health. There is serious money in cotton.
