I like very much both the sporran and the old style roundel dirk. I'm partial to Badger fur as a sporran (one of the few face on sporrans I like), but a first rate, top grade badger pelt with face on is rather pricey, and being like yourself a cheap scot, I haven't commited to the purchase of the pelt I want to make one of those for myself yet. When I do, I will likely make a reproduction of the regimental 93rd Sutherland (now A & S) Highlanders badger sporran in honor of one of my clans, the Sutherlands.
By the way, Badger sporrans are usually considered daytime or at best semi formal wear. If it has a hunting motif or feel about it (stag horn, Badger, brown leather, tweed etc.) I generally think of it as daywear.
