MIke S
thanks for the comments
I didn't know that about badger sporrans
If I make one with a nickle canltle and muskrat fur would that be considered Formal?
I look forward to seeing a photo of your sporran when you get it done, after seeing your other work I know it will be right
BTW
what is considered proper hunting attire?, is there certain clothing or other accessories that go with it besides the sporran?

Hi Joe,
My "hunting attire" comment referenced my belief that much of what we today call highland day wear dress seems to derive from Hunting or shooting attire of the last 150 years or so i.e: Earth or heather tones, and subdued fittings and so on. Something a ghillie or gentleman might wear in the field while hunting, fishing, shooting or otherwise enjoying the outdoors proper. Thus the use of Tweeds, lovatt or heather colors, brown leather, brass or bronze fittings, stag horn, hunting style dirks and sgian dubhs, weathered or muted tartans etc.
I would think that a more formal, silver or polished brass colored metal cantle etc. would, with the right design style, turn any fur or partial fur sporran into a full fledged evening wear accoutrement.

that is some excellent work!
I dare say anyone who says it isn't formal should check their own sporran!
