Glassman, I tried this a while back and it worked well until the elastic was stretched too much and they no longer held the hose in place. Then I had to cut them apart to get my flashes off and try again. After this happened twice, I went back to the metal clips with adjustable elastic. Good idea if you don't wear them a lot, but mine just became too loose.

I have made flashes/garters with elastic and a glasp, and I have made them with a long strip of thick velcro. Both work well enough, but the flashes I bought (while over priced) still work the best of the 4 pairs I have made.

Once you get a good elastic and clasp combo for the garters, you can interchange the flashes to fit each kilts.

Perhaps it was a falling sock that led to his demise? After all, death by falling objects is a common cause of death.

I'm sure everyone has seen/used this article on making simple hose flashes. I gave it a whirl and made 2 sets of flashes in about 30 minutes for about $5. I actually like them better than the ones I bought. But for those of you who don't like velco, you may have a little more work ahead of you.
