Of that one shot Michael, I really do like the looks of Golly in a Kilt, he da' man!

I am not a big fan of trews either but that is just me.

    trews...

See my previous post. Originally trews were tight-fighting, like jodhpurs, but now the term applies to any tartan trousers, especially when referring to those worn by the Scottish regiments.

I don't normally use Wikipedia as a source, but the article on trews is pretty good:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trews

Trews take a bit of a beating around here at times, but you should see a pair of them in person before passing judgement. Granted, a "loud" tartan isn't the best for trews, but a pair in a "subdued" pattern, such as the Government Sett, are really striking, especially formal wear. I plan on buying a pair later in the year as an alternative to the kilt for formal functions.

I like trews, period. I'm not ashamed to say it.

    Cheers,

    Todd

I, um, have, um, ...3 pairs myself. Real trews, not tartan trousers.

I was actually googling "military trews" when this site popped up. Believe me, the women like a well-fitting set of trews as much as the kilt.

    Cool, dude! Need pictures!

I kinda like trews, but the old lady thinks they're fugly, so I will probably concentrate on kilts for the most part.

its common here to hear people refer to all types of trousers as trews, there is a bit of an arguement regarding the new "Regiment of Scotland" the lowland regiments are upset that the Kilt will be worn and of course the lowlanders wear trews, and as part of the restructure they will have to wear the kilt.

If I wore a pair of tightfitting trews I'd look like and overstuffed tartan sausage with a jacket. Not for me.

Most trews today are not tight-fitting, a la riding trousers. If you look at the "trews" of the Lowland regiments, they are essentially tartan trousers and are not the same as their 18th century "cousin".
