In high school I used to have a hobby of admiring girl's underwear when they were going up the stairs - and they don't have body parts that hang down.

Honestly, when I first started wearing the kilt, I was very American about the whole thing (meaning I was very self-conscious about any sort of exposure).

I had a particularly harrowing experience at work when I was carrying some computer equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars from the door to a truck across the small parking lot between buildings. It was a gusty day and sure enough I felt the pleats lift straight up my back. The front of the kilt came up some but between the load in my arms and my sporran I think (???) that I wasn't frontally exposed. But I just stood there, with this massive expensive load in my arms that I couldn't just drop, my kilt lifted high behind me flapping in the wind, and my co-workers behind me HOWLING with laughter.

A couple of things could have come of that. I could have put the kilt away forever and gone back to pants. Instead I thought a little about it, and what I'm showing off is a lot less impressive than what people see on the internet every day, often inadvertently, and other than curiosity about what is under the kilt I don't think anyone cares to see the two lumps of hairy mashed potatoes that I call a buttocks. And since the Tommy Lee / Pam Anderson honeymoon video has been seen by over half the world's population by now, I don't think I'm going to leave any lasting memory in anyone's mind. I may cause a momentary bit of titillation or amusement in some people but then it's over and forgotten about quickly. Life goes on.

Americans are not just prudish, but culturally we have a very short memory span. Our presidents do things regularly that should require impeachment hearings (presidents from both ends of the political spectrum and everywhere in between) and after a month or so goes by, we forget.

So I just don't care anymore if someone happens to be standing at just the right angle when I'm going up stairs, or if the wind blows and exposes my bottom. If someone gets aroused or excited by that, they have strange taste but I'm glad to make someone's day a little better. If someone is offended by an inadvertent flash, maybe I'm just a little happy to push their boundaries a little and challenge them to stop being so Victorian.

I don't know if I could survive that sort of experience. I'm reading these posts and I think regimental sounds like a lot of fun, but if the kilt flies up in the air when you're around children, the parents might not be happy. I just don't know.

The human body is nothing to be ashamed of.. I'm more offended by the prudishness of people than they are of seeing a little skin..

Remember the whole Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction"? I was offended by the severity of reaction to it.. People were saying "but children were watching"... SO WHAT? Which is worse: Seeing a bunch of men in tight uniforms beating the crap out of each other and patting each other on the butt or seeing a breast?

Besides, aren't breast made FOR THE CHILDREN in the first place?
